day trippin'
lenore and i went on an adventure last saturday; the weather was perfect, and we had nothing but time. we rode up to boothbay, a coastal town about two hours north of kennebunkport. the ride was relaxing, and the scenery idyllic. (with exception to that long-ass line of traffic in wiscasset; i could have shopped at big al's for close to an hour without my car having to be moved.)
it was really easy to find the place, once we got into boothbay; i still haven't actually explored the town, but it seems much like every other little on-the-water town in maine i've been to. touristy and quaint.

we toured around for a good three hours, winding around the perimeter of the garden, and exploring all the tucked away spots that had been created. there are a couple more gardens in the works, which will be great to see when they are completed in the next couple of years.
our favorite spot was the fairy village (check back at my page on flickr; i'll have those pics posted soon!), where we built our own little abode for the wood fairies.
it's a beautiful spot; there are open field gardens, gardens in the woods, and trails that take you through the forest that look a little less travelled. there was only one flower that was no longer in bloom (lady slippers) but everything else was at its peak.
there's a fairy village festival coming up, so if you're a mainer with a kid in the area, you should definitely check it out.
for those of you who enjoy sculpture, there are *tons* of them interspersed throughout the gardens, hidden in little spots, featured prominently in others.
all in all, it was a great trip; a spontaneous decision gone well. we both decided we'd definitely like to go back. :)
