'so, lenore. what do you want to be for halloween?'
'i want to be a cheerleader. except a zombie one.'
'okayyyyy...so how would you like to look?'
'i want to look scary, and like i just crawled out of the cemetary.'
and so she was.
the past three halloweens, lenore has been the antithesis of cute. she's been a bloody skeleton, a phantom, and this year an undead cheerleader. she has a lot of fun with the costumes and makeup, but this year's trick-or-treating was even more special, because lenore finally *got* what trick-or-treating is all about. it also doesn't hurt that we go to the neighborhood where all the big old mansions are decked out from rooftop to front porch.
some houses host driveway block parties, with music and warm cider; some houses set up haunted houses in the yard, or even in their home.
this year, there were *hundreds* of kids out when i took lenore; she was so excited to be out and about, checking out all the costumes, and seeing the treats she was getting. the weather was perfect; you could *smell* fall in the air, and there was a general happy buzz all around.
it was the best halloween ever; only to be topped by next year's costume and adventures. :)
